With so many doubts surrounding the decision to homeschool, it is so easy to wonder if you’re doing the right thing.
It seems like every other day I find myself second guessing this journey. Am I doing right by my daughter? What if I miss teaching her the ONE THING she really needs to know as an adult? What if, what if, what if..?
As the months have passed, I’ve started doubting myself less and less. First, it was Kitt’s increase in affection and decrease in hostility toward us. Next, she started participating in her lessons rather than sitting and enduring them. Finally, she started engaging with her own ideas, interpretations, and humor.
Take today, for example. We were wrapping up our Ancient China unit, which involves adding cut out entries into our timeline binder. As we overlapped the time of Julius Caesar, Kitt noticed that Confucius was born soon after Caesar’s death. She made a joke that he might have reincarnated as Confucius. It was an eye opening moment for me. She is not only learning, but she is putting together those facts and coming up with her own creative twist.
This is why I wanted to homeschool in the first place. It might have taken four months, but we made it this far. There’s nothing holding us back now!
